Plymouth’s former Register Office in Lockyer Street - described as a “substantial” site in a prime location - has sold at auction for £827,000.
It had been listed by auctioneers Clive Emson Land and Property at a charitable starting price of just £295,000 - which raised many eyebrows.
The auction attracted more than 200 bids.
The site was advertised as "being in one of the most desirable areas of Plymouth”. Subject to planning consent, it is likely to be developed into luxury apartments or housing, with the potential for some retail.
Plymouth Hoe Neighbourhood Forum had previously been working with the city council on an “affordable” housing plan for the site in sympathy with the surrounding conservation area.
The Beagle is sniffing out who the purchaser might be, and details of what is planned for the site. If you have info, email contactthebeagle@gmail.com
